The End of the World
Around a decade ago, some people were saying that the world was going to end at the start of the year 2000. Some found evidence of ancient prophecies, or referenced the end of the Mayan calendar as proof. Some fekkiks joined religious cults and killed themselves.
Then January 1st, 2000 rolled around, and people just looked very scheepish (or dead).
A few months ago, there was a billboard near my house with the quote "At the turn of the century, the weather became a matter of life and death". I didn't think about this much, but recently it sprang to mind, along with a few other things.
Since 2000, lets see what's happened...
The Twin Towers were destroyed, sparking (or giving an excuse for) a war that's still kinda being fought, and terrorism has become an common word and frequent event.
We've had the SARS panic, followed by the avian flu
The boxing day tsunami, hurricane Katrina, and a few others have changed global warming from a distant threat to a potential killer (depending on who you listen to).
That's three of the Four Horsemen stepping up their efforts. And given my appetite, I dread the thought of Famine catching up.

Re: The End of the World
i know what you mean
the weathers gone AWOL
its July and its still cold and raining here
snort said that it was snowing in Texas, in April!
there's all the flooding in Yorkshire
and only the gods know what else is going on
i think global warning is a very real threat and only a few are doing anything about it
but what really peeves me off is all these big companies trying to use global warming to make an even bigger profit
especially the energy companies they might say that going with them is better for the environment but somehow i just cant bring myself to believe them
I'm not gonna start preaching but recycling is something i feel strongly about and a lot of people, by no means all people, but a lot a people just seem to think they can leave it to the next generation
anyway that's where I'm gonna leave it because talking about it makes me angry
but we just cant ignore it anymore

Re: The End of the World
You know, I had an idea once about recycling. Wouldn't it b great to take crimnals (prisoners) out to landfills and have them sort out recyclables from the garbage as part of their punishment?
On WW someone posted a site about 7/17/07, here it is, http://www.firethegrid.com/. I haven't read the whole thing but it suggest that our weather is leading up to that date for something big. Significant change.

Re: The End of the World
Until you think of the bio-hazards, rusted metal cans, syringes, and local vermin that would be dispersed throughout the landfill.
Can anyone say cruel and unusual?

Re: The End of the World
theres ways to protect them
and maybe it should be kept for the really bad criminals
it will teach them a lesson

Re: The End of the World
it would teach them a lesson and be a good deterrent. If kids think they'll have to spend their sentence in a landfill, maybe they'll think twice before committing a crime.
