Re: Books?
Books are better than the internet, I can't so much snuggle up horizontally to a good laptop for a peaceful evening of imagined romance.
So there.
So there.

Re: Books?
I snuggled up the other night to what I thought was a going to be a good romance but found out by page two I had picked up an extremely poorly written something else. Put it this way, there were four words that took it from rated pg to x. Surprise!
So, because of the movie trailer that was posted on ww I bought the Phillip Pullman, His Dark Matrials series. I tried to start reading it last night but between my kiddo asking perpetual questions I had no answers to and the fireworks that went off constantly from 9pm to 12:30 am, I couldn't get past the first page of Compass. So I'll try again today.

Re: Books?
Books are portable, require no electricity, have instantaneous loading time, and last for decades (centuries in some cases). And two full bookshelves are good for showing off.

i never get rid of a book (im the same with my video games)
and yeah their full of books! he has more books than dvds and videos
we read to him alot and he loves the pictures
ive collected my books since i was a kid they were in storage until we moved from our tiny flat to a 3 bed semi so we have the space to store them now and when you count errors books that he brought with him when we moved in together it comes to a huge amount of books lol
what can i say id rather sit down and read a book than watch a dvd
i cant get into a dvd like i can a book

Re: Books?
Well, he got a head start then. I wasn't able to buy lots of books as a kid (not when I could just borrow them from the library for free), and I could only afford to start buying my own a few years ago.

i agree it can get very expensive
i was a real bookworm so i had books for Christmas, birthdays every special occasion really lol
and even when I've read them i cant bear to get rid of them
I'm by no means bashing you for having less books as me that would be silly since I'm alittle OTT when it comes to reading lol other people have lives I'm home a lot so i have books lol

Re: Books?
I love books & they are everywhere at home & one day I hope to read them all thru properly. But I do love the internet for instant info- then I go out & buy the Book.
Re: Books?
what i hate is when you read a really good book then are disappointed by the movie
its rare that the movie measures up although the golden compass is looking really good

Re: Books?
I just finished The Golden Compass and am already disappointed by the liberties Hollywood is taking with it. Dialogue, character descriptions etc. Ms. Coulter is not supposed to be a CURLY BLONDE! Her hair is dark and sleek. Lee Scoresby is supposed to have a thin, dark mustache, not that bushy grey thing Sam Elliott has. And nowhere in the book does Iorek tell Lee that he, "Has a contract with the child."
Damn Hollywood.
Damn Hollywood.

Re: Books?
i came to expect this after the greenmile
i never get my hopes up that it will be exactly like the books
you just gotta watch it as if it was completely separate from the books
I'm one of the nit pickers that found fault with the lord of the rings films lol after my dad introduced me to the books at about 7 he used to read them to me before bed lol
but they explain the changes in the directors commentary (yes I'm sad enough to watch the film with Peter Jackson talking over it lol)

Re: Books?
I read the Hobbit when I was young but couldn't get into the series past that. I've seen the movies but I guess I'm tainted. I know too much about special effects and I despise CGI (puppet Yoda!).
I don't go to theaters (too loud, too sticky, too many kids or cell phones) anymore because it only takes a month or two for a film to go DVD or even Pay Per View. Do you guys have PPV there on cable or satellite? We have a DVR so it's not even worth the cost to go to a theater anymore. We record while PPV and have the movie forever. Can even transfer it to DVD.
I'm whining. I'll quit.

Re: Books?
i think we still have PPV but I'm not sure since i don't watch alot of TV
we go to the cinema now and again either as a treat for my step-daughter or as something for me and error to do together
or since America gets them normally about 6 months before us in the UK we get them from eBay since our DVD player will play anything lol

Saw the movie a couple of weeks ago, and was sickened by the way they messed it up. And the ending? What? Talk about Hollywood liberties. Wrong, wrong, wrong,.....
